Health Essentials - Heal Faster & Stay Pain-Free Longer!

Wednesday, April 02, 2025

Hey again, Dr. Fedich here. Just giving you a couple more little explanations. We find that the patients who get better faster and stay better longer are the ones who know a little bit more about their condition and their health.

Just want to explain a couple of things to you real quick on this dry erase board.

So, one picture we like to draw a lot with patients is this: up here is optimal health. Let’s say we’re 18 years old—everything feels good, everything’s working well, we’re doing great. A lot of times, patients ask me, “How did this happen? I just woke up one morning with back pain, neck pain, headaches, etc.” And I like to explain it this way.

So, this is optimal health—you’re born, everything works fine. But over time, we fall a little, play some sports, sit at our desks too long, commute too long… and next thing you know, we find ourselves below this line down here called the pain line.

Normally, things don’t just happen overnight—they’ve kind of been developing over time. That’s what we’re seeing with a lot of our patients.

What we do with chiropractic adjustments is: boom, boom, boom, boom, boom—we get you across that pain line. Now, the reason I want you to continue with your care a little bit after you’re feeling better is that we don’t want to leave you right near that pain line, where things can come right back. We want to do a series of additional treatments to get you further above the pain line as soon as possible.

This healing phase usually takes about 90 days.

Why 90 days? That’s about how long it takes for cells, tissues, and organs to heal. If you sprain your ankle, you’re probably not playing basketball again for about 90 days. That’s just how long these things take.

So, it takes time to get you feeling better. And then, once you're better, we want to show you ways to stay better, so these issues don’t keep coming back. It’s kind of like stitches—you know? If the doctor told you that you needed stitches for 30 to 60 days, or that it takes 20 stitches to get you healed, you wouldn’t say, “Just put one or two in and let’s see what happens,” right? You’d want them to put in all 20 to make sure it gets all the way better.

That’s really, really important—it takes time to heal.

Another drawing we like to show people here is called the N diagram, to explain how chiropractic works a little better. So we’ll put that right in the middle.

We all know that when we’re 100% healthy, the body’s chemistry is working the way it’s supposed to. If the chemistry in your stomach isn’t right, you get heartburn. If your chemistry isn’t working right, you can get diabetes. A lot of health problems are really tied to our chemistry.

Well, the chemistry of the body is controlled by your cells, tissues, and organs. And those are all ultimately controlled by the nervous system.

Your stomach won’t digest food—or do anything at all—without your brain telling it what to do through your nerves. So when that signal gets disrupted—say, by a bone out of place, what we call a subluxation—that signal is weakened or blocked. That electrical signal doesn't fire correctly, and the cells, tissues, and organs don’t function properly. Ultimately, the chemistry of your body gets thrown off and you don’t feel good.

So that’s how these things happen.

As we adjust you—especially when you’re not feeling well—we relieve pressure off the nerves. The chemistry starts improving. The nerves work better. The cells, tissues, and organs start functioning better—and then, you start feeling and working better.

That’s how chiropractic can help things beyond just back and neck pain. If we get the nervous system working properly, the body is able to communicate better with all its parts. That’s why chiropractic care can help with so many different issues.

It’s really important to get your friends and family under care, too. Sometimes we help with things you might not even be thinking about—colic, earaches, trouble sleeping, digestive problems. All of these can potentially be helped through chiropractic care as we correct the nervous system.

So it's just really important to maintain your health—and take care of things when they’re just getting started.
