Health Essentials - Understanding Chiropractic and your Body

Wednesday, April 02, 2025

Hey there, Dr. Fedich here with another Health Essentials video for you—to help you look at and understand a little bit more about chiropractic and your body.

So, when human life begins, there’s a male cell and a female cell. They join up to make a little nerve-blood cluster, and that’s basically the start of life. That cluster eventually turns into your brain.

Then what happens is we start generating nerve fibers. They crisscross the body—right to left, left to right—and those are your primitive nerves. Eventually, at the end of these nerve fibers will be all your cells, tissues, organs, fingers, toes—all the important parts of your body. They start sending nerve signals back and forth throughout the body from the very beginning of conception.

Now, this system is so important that the human body encases it in bone—especially the nervous system. In fact, there’s more bone around the nervous system than any other part of the body. We all know you’ve got a thick skull protecting your brain. And around the spinal cord, we’ve got square-shaped bones called vertebrae. These protect the spine and also help us move. So all of that bone is there to encase and protect the nervous system.

Scientists have found that at the end of these nerves, if you connect a light bulb, it can actually light up from the nerve signal. The electricity flowing through the nervous system is strong enough to power a light bulb. They’ve also found that just the pressure of a nickel—if you place a nickel on a nerve—can stop it from working and cause that light bulb to go out.

So when the vertebrae become misaligned or shift out of position, they can pinch, irritate, rub, buckle, or choke those nerves—preventing the nerve signal from getting through. That’s what we do as chiropractors: we make sure those nerve channels are open, allowing the nerve signals to reach every cell, tissue, and organ in the human body.

That’s why it’s really, really important to take care of your spine.

You know, people sometimes say, “You go to the chiropractor every week? That’s a lot.” And I’ll say, “You know what? I exercise six days a week. That’s about 300 times a year.” So getting adjusted 40 to 50 times a year—when you’re sitting at a desk all day, driving all day, and getting beat up by daily life—isn’t really that much when you think about everything we put our bodies through.

That’s why it’s so important to continue with care. Once we’re feeling better, we want to make sure those nerve signals keep flowing, so these problems don’t come back down the road.

We offer discount plans for friends and family, and also for maintaining your care. There are all sorts of affordable ways to keep this up—and doing so helps make sure these problems don’t come back later, and that the information flow in the nervous system stays at 100%.

And we all agree—we want 100% of the information from the brain getting to every cell, tissue, and organ in the body at all times.
